Vaporizer and Vaping For The Beginner In Simple Easy To Understand Terms

So me and my wife just quit smoking, and I spent days! Really, entire days! Looking over which vaporizer to get, and what everything means about them, and still had, even more questions after receiving them.

This article is not for the advanced user but, for someone who is just starting out and needs Vaporizer and Vaping For The Beginner, In Simple, Easy To Understand Terms, laid out, in an easy to read way.

This is not a paid endorsement, Vapor DNA allowed me to use images from their site to help display what I am talking about.

So let’s get right into it and start answering those, What Is A “Vaporizer Part/Accessory” Questions!

  • What Is A Vaporizer Cell (aka Core) or Vaporizer No Cell (aka Core) Included – Means a battery, or no battery included.

  • What Is A Vaporizer Coil – Coils are a wrapped piece of wire that will connect to the positive and negative terminals to produce heat that is used to vaporize the liquid. They go inside of every single Atomizer and are the part that produces the end result of smoke with heat. A pre-made coil combines all of elements together enclosed into a single disposable piece.

  • What Is A Vaporizer RBA Coil – Are a Rebuildable Atomizer, Other words it will give you the ability to re-wick and re-wire your own coils to save money, it is extremely easy to do, btw.

  • What Is A Vaporizer Atomizer – It creates the smoke from the e liquid and can be called a RBA Coil, Coil, Sub OHM Coil, RDA Coil, RTA Coil, Drip / Dripping Coil.

  • What Is A Vaporizer Wick – A piece of cotton threaded through the coil to absorb the liquid to be heated by the coil. 100% Pure Japanese Cotton is recommended to be the cleanest and best material. If you buy something else make sure it doesn’t have additives or chemicals in it.

  • What Is A Vaporizer Starter Kit – This is normally an all in one solution for the beginner. It includes everything you need for the basic’s of starting, normally without a battery / core. I highly recommend Kangertech Tech Subox Mini. It is what me and my wife bought and has worked great so far.

  • What Is 0.5 (.5) or 1.5 Vaporizer coil – A different diameter of wire is used to create higher or lower OHM resistance and will give a different type of vape or so I’ve read. I have experienced almost no difference.

  • What Is Vaporizer Wire Resistance – The lower the resistance of the wire, the faster it will heat up and produce smoke / vape and also with a lower resistance you will vaporize at a lower wattage so your battery will last longer. Also the opposite is true for higher resistance wire, it will take longer to heat up unless you throw more wattage at it and then it will drain your battery quicker.

The larger the wire diameter the more electrons can pass through it at once. Lowering the resistance.

  • What Is A Box Mod (box, box kit, device) – It is the larger part of the vaporizer, on the bottom of it. It is the part where you hold, adjust the wattage, has the buttons, holds the tank and atomizer. So in essence the main part of it.

  • What Is A Vaporizer Tank – This is the part that holds your e-liquid, and in a sub ohm tank it will store your atomizer too.

  • What Is A Temperature Control Vaporizer – Instead of worrying about your wattage and volts, you just set a temperature of what you want the atomizer to warm up too. These are a new technology and require special coils to use the temperature control feature. Most of the Temperature Control Vaporizers I looked at could also default back to normal mode.

  • What Is A Mechanical Vaporizer – It is a vaporizer that moves the battery mechanically (a button, normally) to make contact and start producing vape or smoke. These are normally a lot more dangerous for the fact that it is unregulated current that does not have built in safety features. Like an auto off, over heat, over drain or short circuit protections. I personally will probably never use one, just because it doesn’t make me feel safe at all.

  • What Is A Lithium Ion Vaporizer Battery – It is a rechargeable battery, the most common of them used currently are 18650 and or pre-installed. You really want to be careful you are buying a new battery from a trustworthy source. These batteries are not sold to consumers directly and are commonly replicated, re-wrapped or used. Lithium Ion batteries will catch on fire if mistreated or misused. Which leads to my next point.

  • Will My Vaporizer Explode Or Catch On Fire – It is possible but it is possible for all lithium ion batteries to catch on fire, just like the one in your cell phone, cordless phone, tablet, laptop, your kids remote control car and so on. I would highly recommend, you watch some YouTube videos of them “exploding” so you know what NOT TO DO!!

  • What Is A IMR Battery – IMR prevents most cases of overcharging the batteries beyond their acceptable voltages, These are the type that you SHOULD be using in your mods. I would personally rather spend 5.00 more to feel at least a little safer about the battery.

  • What Vaporizer RBA Wire is 0.5 Ohms – This actually is not just the wire gauge (diameter) by its self. It is also effected by how many times you wrap the wire. 26 Gauge with 4-6 wraps should bring you close to that resistance.

  • What Vaporizer RBA Wire is 1.5 Ohms – The same rule as above applies to this, but a 30 Gauge with 8-10 wraps. Should achieve 1.5Ohm resistance.

  • What Is The Difference In Vaporizer Wire Types Used For Making Coils – There is a few choices not counting different metal mixes to make the wire. My favorite and a classic with most of the community is Kanthal A-1 Wire, this is my personal favorite and seems to have the least amount of issues personally. Nichrome 80 Wire is another type I tried, and I didn’t like at all. The wire worked fine. But being an ex-welder, I could instantly taste, exactly how welding metal with a MIG welder smelled. I have heard a lot of other people say the same thing, so I would pass on that until you experiment. There is also Ni200 Pure Nickel Wire, pure nickel is not something you want to weld on, so for that reason We don’t trust it enough to use it, Also it is commonly used is temperature control devices which We don’t own and I would’ve purchased the next wire in place of it. Ti Titanium Wire –  This is mostly used for temperature control devices again and is a bit overkill for a normal vaporizer but titanium is a strong clean metal that I personally would’ve used if I purchased a temperature control device. (Disclaimer – Welding is not the same as just heating a wire, As welding is actually bringing the metal to a molten state, it does change and release chemicals, that it would not otherwise. But I am basing most of my opinions off my personal welding experience and additional research about the wires used.)

  • What Are Vaporizer Drip Tips – Drip tips are used to extend the tank and form more to your mouth when hitting the vaporizer, Besides that they are mostly changed or upgraded for extending the length, shape or just adding some personal touch to your setup.

  • What Nicotine Level E-Juice or E-Liquid Should I Use In My Vaporizer – The nicotine of e-juice ranges from what I have seen from 0-36 milligrams. The highest I have ever smoked was 24mg and that left me very twitchy and maybe early symptoms of nicotine poisoning. With that said I used to smoke 2 packs a day and I smoked my vaporizer about every 3-10 minutes to get me over the urge for a real cigarette. I still smoke my vaporizer that much but I am now using 6mg liquid, That allows me to hit it about as much as I want without the terrible side effects. If you are looking to replace cigarettes, think about how much you will want to hit your vaporizer. If it is honestly only going to be a couple times a day or once an hour. A medium or higher nicotine level should be ok but I highly recommend to start out at a lower level if you are going to hit it often to reduce the urge to smoke and help curb your appetite for a cigarette. We don’t think I will ever use more than 12mg again personally but everyone is different.

  • Where Should I Buy My Vaporizer, E-Liquid or E-Juice From – This is a personal choice of course, but make sure it is somewhere you trust, to sell you authentic and safe products. There is a lot of cloning and non authentic items being sold every day, most of the time the consumer is unaware what they are buying is not real. For your liquid I would make sure it is made in america as most factories and chemical plants here tend to have higher standards then a lot of places in the world. Again do as you want but you’re the one inhaling it. A Lot of local vape shops have a tasting bar, where you can go in and sample different flavors, before purchasing them. I bought my vaporizer and accessories from vapordna.com and I purchase my E-liquid from dirtcheapejuice.com.

  • What Is A Vaporizer Clone – Clones are rip off products, not manufactured by the original creator, and are not always the same quality, or made from the same materials. I caution you as much as possible, to be careful, if this is all you can afford.

I will keep adding more as I come across them or learn them myself. But I really hope this helps to understand the terminology when choosing your first one or just trying to learn a little more about them.

If you are interested in what I think is a very good starter vaporizer, I would buy the KangerTech Subox Mini over and over again. I compared A LOT of starter kits being fairly lost myself but this really works great and comes with a Rebuildable Coil, 0.5Ohm Coil, 1.5Ohm Coil, Additional 100% Pure Japanese Cotton and a few pre-wrapped coils, so if you are interested in saving money and learning how to rebuild your own coils, it is perfect for the price. You can find them online for 70.00 or less. All you need to buy, to use it, is a 18650 IMR Battery and your vaporizer liquid of choice.
